football NU kicker not letting Outback nightmare keep him down

Quote:
He walked around Welsh-Ryan Arena the other night as if he were running for mayor of Evanston.

Outfitted prominently in a walking boot and black shirt with a purple "N" logo, he chatted with university President Morton Schapiro and sat at halfcourt for an interview with WGN-AM 720.

You might have envisioned Stefan Demos entering the Witness Security Program after missing that game-winner in the Outback Bowl, but he has taken the opposite tact since returning to campus.

Is there something you want to tell NU's feisty, personable kicker? Have at it.

Last week while dining in Evanston, Demos heard a man holler at him about missing the field goal. Demos approached him and said: "Feel free to vent, but there's nothing you can say that changes the way I feel."

I think this is quite admirable for this young man. It sucks to lose, but he's handling this better than I possibly could do.

Jim, I would say the majority of the population handles things better than you do.

Any true NU fan doesn't blame him one but for the loss, or even cares that much that we lost the way we did. He redeemed himself by taking one for the team and almost breaking his leg at the end I thought.

The loss hurt, not winning a bowl game since 1949 hurts as it's the last hurdle for an otherwise successful reclamation project of a football program but Demos has had a fine season no doubt
