He can appeal. MN sources think he'll win it, so he could come back right away.

They're appealing, but does a family death (from what I understand) constitute enough to give him a reprieve in the NCAA's eyes?

Devoe Joseph is starting the MSU game at least, in his place.

As just a regular college student I have a hard time feeling much sympathy..I mean it's sad that a family member of his died, but life happens to everyone, e-mail or talk to the professors. It all comes down to being able to balance everything out.

Agreed. Also, he didn't miss any basketball, so how much did this truly affect him?

Some people need things to escape to when facing depressing times, school requires thinking while he could get by on muscle memory and the thrill of the game in basketball. I could understand why he'd do it, not that I agree with it but it looks like basketball was his way of dealing with the grief.

This happened to Chris Booker for Purdue a while back. Booker missed some finals or something because he went home due to a death in his family. He was declared ineligible for the 2nd semester and never played again for PU despite numerous appeals and PU optimism that he would win those appeals.

Yeah, I'm not expecting him back, at least for this season.

Update on Nolen, his appeal was indeed denied and he's expected to miss the rest of the season. This year has been unbelievable
